Meet Richard! Lead Engineer at AKKA Czech Republic

What is your role and story in AKKA?

Currently, I am a Lead Engineer in the software development field. 

I am responsible for organizing and mentoring nine of my colleagues. I’m also participating in the hiring process for the new employees. I strongly believe in the power of cooperation, and every couple of months, we organize workshops and training for my team, colleagues and students from high school and university.

I started in AKKA as a Junior Engineer right after my university studies. I decided to apply for a job in this company because I was interested in fitting my technical knowledge with practical experience in the process of machine research and development. 

Over the past 6 years, I was given the possibility of self-developing through my position growth and, with it, my responsibilities. I felt always comfortable in leadership positions, so I did not hesitate and took the opportunity. I am very satisfied with the environment my team and I have created. 

What is your background?

My path was set from the beginning: my father was an electrical engineer and my mom an architect. When I was little, I spent my time surrounded by the latest computers and (they say) I learned to count in binary before knowing numbers! 

Later on, I joined the electrical engineering high school in my hometown. After this, I moved to Brno and did my bachelor’s and master’s studies in Computer science and Artificial intelligence.

What are your achievements?

I have always been a creative person and I have participated in several innovation contests when I was a student, mostly in order to contribute to new environmental solutions.

As an AKKA employee AKKA, I achieved to build from scratch a successful team of ten people and create a healthy, safe and friendly environment. 

On top of that, my latest professional success has been reaching the final round of the AKKA innovation awards 2020.

From a personal point of view, I succeeded in building a beautiful family.

How do your friends define you?

I think they would describe me as an optimistic and pragmatic person who finds pleasure in simple things. Also, those who know me well will know about my love for fantasy, role-playing games (RPG) and live-action role playing events. From these activities, I developed a very strong strategic thinking and goal-seeking nature.

I like to surround myself with people that enjoy the calmness of a good conversation around a table with food, beer and good music. Regularly, I organize events with my colleagues to try new activities during our leisure time.

 However, I also appreciate my independence and spend my alone time working on self-improvement. I like to read and practice with microcontrollers and new tools for software development.
