Green & Fly, AKKA’s fully electric, hydrogen-powered concept aircraft

A light and small aircraft (classification CS25) with a futuristic design and a sophisticated mechanism powered by hydrogen fuel cell batteries and supercapacitors.

The project
Green & Fly is AKKA’s fully electric, hydrogen-powered concept aircraft, featuring a disruptive design based around a rhombohedral wing shape. Designed to carry up to 30 passengers for a range of 500km, it is a zero-emission concept for flights at a regional scale.

Our solution
The Energy Conversion & Management Systems (EMS) will supervise the available energy sources (fuel cell, battery and supercapacitor).

These sources are different in their dynamic behavior but are complementary, making it possible to respond optimally to the energy needs of the system in real time.

The main functions of the EMS consist to:

  • Optimize the energy flow in the system
  • Activate the energy component most suited to the type of power profile
  • Guarantee the safe operation of the system

Predictive Monitoring & Maintenance for hydrogen storage systems through AKKA’s Big Data Platform

The project
AKKA joined forces with the Grenoble-based start-up SYLFEN via its Big Data platform in order to develop the building of the future, self-sufficient in renewable energy.

Our solution

AKKA’s Big Data platform is an integrated platform that manages the entire data processing chain. It allows to massively collect heterogeneous data from SYLFEN (solar production, electrical and thermal consumption of buildings, technical data, etc.) and to facilitate data visualisation and mining.

Energy management on a combined solar / H2 power plant

The project
GRTgaz consulted AKKA to design a renewable energy system for a compressor station to serve as a showcase: from photovoltaic system to hydrogen-based energy storage system.

Our solutions/approach
Based on the concept of « design thinking », the technical-economic study consisted in exploring, through an iterative process, the following different themes:

  • Consumption needs of the industrial site
  • PV system constraints: geographical position, seasonality, time slot
  • Usable area and PV system technology
  • Operational constraints, power demands
  • Use of supercapacitors for the management of fast transients
  • Use of batteries in addition to the fuel cell
